Steven Philippe played in the Valley East Minor Hockey Association.

On June 21, 2009 Steven Philippe, Jazmine Houle and Caitlin Jelley

were killed as the result of an alleged drinking and driving hit and run

accident. The community lost three wonderful members and the

world lost their enormous potential.

Unveiling of Steven's Jersey - Saturday, December 12, 2009 3:00pm Ray Plourde Arena

On Father's Day, 2009, the lives of Steven Philippe, Jazmine Houle and Caitlin Jelley were tragically lost resulting in profound feelings of senselessness by their families and our community.

On October 20, 2009, the Valley East Minor Hockey Association retired Steven's No. 1 Jersey in memory of a dear son, a loving brother, a caring uncle, a true friend and a great team mate.

Following the December 2009 Tournament the VEMHA presented the inaugural:

Steven Philippe - Memorial Trophy

To Michel Rainville, goaltender with VE Midget Food Basics for Michel's goaltending heroics as well his sportsmanship in both winning and losing, traits that Steven was well known for.

In addition, the annual prizes for the VEMHA December and February tournaments have been named in Steven's honour:

The Steven Philippe Memorial Fair Play Prizes

Because sportsmanship and fair play were what Steven was all about.

Our House League

Well he was a goalie - real fine guy

Keep well away from the glove side

Football at school, then back on ice

That was his life, he loved to play in our House League

Oh, our House League

Not much to do in this cold northern town

Workin' the mines all day underground

When lookin’ for fun - it’ll be with the game

Play hard 'n safe and you’re on your way

To your House League

Ah, that boy use to play in our House League

That boy use to turn some heads

That boy use to play in the Valley

That boy use to stop’em dead

Ah, our House League

Moved to our town when he turned a young teen

Made many friends on his sports teams

Out with his girl and her friend walking

When a drunk driver lost it in the wrong lane

To the Valley

Ah, that boy use to play in our House League

That boy use to turn some heads

That boy use to play in the Valley

That boy use to stop’em dead

Ah, never can tell what might come down

Never can tell when you might check out

Just don’t know, no, you never can tell

Too often at night, 'nother news flash

Friends wiped out in a crazy drunk crash

Sometimes in the morning I still hear the sound

Dad wake up

Can’t you drive me out to the Valley?

Ah, that boy use to play in our House League

That boy use to turn some heads

That boy use to play in the Valley

That boy use to stop’em dead

Ah, never can tell what might come down

Never can tell when you might check out

Just don’t know, no you never can tell

So do right to others like you do to yourself

In your House League

Ah, our House League

Ah, your House League
